Make the most out of your stay at The Alphen this May. Choose from various exciting events – held both at the hotel and in the greater Cape Town area.

Sip on history at Groot Constantia and discover what local wine kept Napolean Bonaparte content during his exile on St Helena Island. Visitors to the estate will be able view artifacts used by the man himself as well as purchase a bottle or two of Groot Constantia’s Wine of Exile. The exhibition runs until the 21st of June 2019.

Flex your green fingers at Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden’s annual Plant Fair on the 4th of May 2019. From towering triffids to delicate daisies, the Fair attracts the country’s best growers and finest specimens of flora. Held at the Garden’s stone cottages, visitors can purchase plants, gain gardening advice from professionals or simply take the time to smell the roses. Those after landscaping of a different sort can take in the best of South African design and décor at Decorex 2019 – held in the Cape Town International Convention Centre from the 1st to the 5th of May.

For the adventurously energetic, take advantage of the lesser-known trails around the Constantia area. The weather is mild and the time is right for a hike up Devil’s Peak via Constantia Nek. Pay a visit to Table Mountain National Park’s site and find out the best route for your fitness levels. Alternatively, go out on a limb for the 3 Peaks Fun Challenge – a free event where hikers scale all three of Cape Town’s most iconic peaks in as many days.

Take in triple Pulitzer Prize-winner Edward Albee’s production The Goat, showing until the 18th of May at the Baxter Theatre in Rondebosch or opt for a viewing of The Snow Goose at The Fugard Theatre until the 4th of May.

Keep things closer to home and enjoy our warming winter food specials at Blanko, Incognito and la Belle Bistro & Bakery – valid from 13 May until 31 August 2019. Not to be forgotten, make the most of Mother’s Day and spoil the special lady in your life with our exclusive Celebration Tea. Hosted at Blanko, we’ll be treating mom to a delicious selection of afternoon tea-inspired treats enjoyed over a view of The Alphen’s historic gardens.
